Auditory Discrimination: Sound Production

Auditory discrimination is concerned with looking at & listening to speech sounds in terms of how they are produced in the vocal tract including sounds and sound patterns associated with the systematic patterning of a particular word articulation or pronounciation.
Phonetics - is the study of sounds made by human when they talk.

Aspects to auditory discrimination:
- flow of air from the lungs
- a constriction of airflow in the mouth
- an additional noise source in the throat
Consonants - are speech sounds produceed when the speaker either stops or obstructs the air flow in the vocal tract.

Vowels - are formed by the movement of the tounge and lips.These organs change the resonating shape of the mouth and so alter the sound of the air stream travelling through that space.
Difficulties for English learner:
- difficulty to feel the tongue position in their mouths to utter the correct vowel
- the vowel are differ between one variaty of English and another.
Homophony - words have identical pronounciation but different meanings.
